Jarrod Spector (Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys) chooses: Victor’s Café
Jarrod’s dish picks: House specialty Ropa Vieja (shredded Black Angus skirt steak in herbs and spices, served in plantain basket).
Hankering for authentic Cubano food? No need to go to Havana. Victor Del Corral’s family recipes have been a Theatre District hit for 30 years. Regulars don’t need menus for such standouts as smoked ham croquettes and yuca tortillas (stuffed with Creole-style shrimp and cheese) and, for entrées, arroz con pollo, paella and roast suckling pig (marinated in sour orange, olive oil, herbs, spices and served with yuca).
Says general manager Pablo Figueroa, “Go through the panels at the rear and a sun-drenched world materializes for totally relaxed dining,” courtesy of skylight, palm tree and Jose Miguel Rodriguez’s colorful six-panel painting. Full bar.
