Stratford Festival, Studio Theatre
The Stratford Festival of Canada's fourth venue, the Studio Theatre opened its doors on July 13, 2002 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Festival's first opening night.
Described as an exploration space for artists, the 260-seat theatre houses repertoire of all kinds, including new and experimental works and rarely produced classics.
Designed under the leadership of Elizabeth Davidson, of Davidson-Langley Inc. Architects, and made possible by the generous support of Raphael and Jane Bernstein, and Jim and Sandra Pitblado, the new Studio Theatre was built as an additional component to the existing Avon Theatre. Its design echos that of the larger Festival Theatre, with a modified thrust stage and seating on three sides. Two rehearsal halls, dressing rooms, and patron washrooms complete the complex.
