News 10th Annual SAG Award Nominees Announced; "Angels in America" Receives Six Noms Melissa Gilbert, Andie MacDowell and Mark Harmon announced Jan. 15 the nominations for the 10th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Performances during 2003.

Nominees were chosen in five theatrical motion picture and eight television categories. Winners will be presented with their statuettes on Feb. 22 at the Los Angeles Shrine Exposition Center. The awards ceremony will be televised live on Turner Network Television (TNT) at 8 PM ET/PT; check local listings.

The Mike Nicholas-directed "Angels in America," which premiered on HBO in 2003, received six nominations. Justin Kirk, Al Pacino and Jeffrey Wright were all recognized for their performances in the six-hour Tony Kushner epic. The actors were nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries category, a field that also includes a nomination for Paul Newman in the televised version of Thorton Wilder's Our Town and one for Forest Whitaker in "Deacons for Defense." "Angels" co-stars Mary-Louise Parker, Meryl Streep and Emma Thompson were also nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries category. The "Angels" women will vie for the award in a field that includes Anne Bancroft and Helen Mirren, both nominated for their roles in "Tennessee Williams' The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone."

Speaking of Tennessee Williams, stage veteran Patricia Clarkson, who will be part of the Kennedy Center's forthcoming mounting of the playwright's A Streetcar Named Desire, picked up two SAG nominations. Clarkson was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her work in "The Station Agent" and for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for the independent film "Pieces of April."

Also of interest to theatregoers: The Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series category boasts a host of theatre regulars: Stockard Channing ("The West Wing"), Frances Conroy ("Six Feet Under"), Tyne Daly ("Judging Amy") and Allison Janney ("The West Wing"). The field also includes nominations for Jennifer Garner ("Alias") and Mariska Hargitay ("Law & Order: SVU").
