MCC Theater has announced that Beth Behrs will lead the cast of the world premiere of Halley Feiffer’s comedy A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center of New York City. The 2 Broke Girls star is making her New York stage debut in the Off-Broadway production about two strangers who meet in a hospital.

Behrs will be joined by Obie winner Lisa Emery (Jessica Jones) as well as stage vet Jacqueline Sydney. Additional casting will be announced at a later date. Directed by Trip Cullman, previews are set to begin May 19 ahead of a June 7 opening night.

“In A Funny Thing Happened…, a foul-mouthed twenty-something comedian and a middle-aged man embroiled in a nasty divorce are brought together unexpectedly when their cancer-stricken mothers become roommates in the hospital,” state press notes. “Together, this unlikely duo must negotiate some of life’s biggest challenges... while making some of the world’s most inappropriate jokes. Can these two very lost people learn to laugh through their pain and lean on each other when all they really want to do is run away?”

The design team for A Funny Thing Happened… includes sets by Lauren Helpern, costumes by Kaye Voyce, lighting by Matthews Richards and sound by Tony winner Darron L West.
