The New York City Public Advocate, Mark Green will present the 2000 Lesbian and Gay Pride Awards Ceremony Honors Theatre Stars at City Hall, June 22. Several theatre stars who have distinguished themselves as advocates both in and for the gay community will receive "special advocate" awards.
Scheduled to attend are honorees Patrick Stewart (The Ride Down Mt. Morgan), Bebe Neuwirth (Chicago, Sweet Charity), Cherry Jones (A Moon for the Misbegotten, The Heiress), Philip Seymour Hoffman (True West) and Joy Behar ("The View"). These stars will be the recipients of Special Advocate Awards at City Hall.
Scheduled to perform are Chicago's Sharon Lawrence and Marcia Lewis as well as cast members from Off-Broadway's The Laramie Project.
A spokesperson for the Public Advocate told Playbill On-Line that all of the honorees "have distinguished themselves in a positive way within the gay community, whether it is acting in shows or through their work."
