Off-Broadway News 2017 Lucille Lortel Awards Presented May 7 The new Off-Broadway musical Hadestown and the immersive revival of Sweeney Todd lead this year’s nominations.

The nominations have been announced for the 32nd annual Lucille Lortel Awards celebrating The 32nd annual Lucille Lortel Awards, celebrating outstanding achievement in Off-Broadway theatre, are presented May 7 at the Skirball Center. Hamilton star Taran Killam hosts the ceremony.

Leading the nominations with seven each are Anaïs Mitchell’s folk opera Hadestown, which played an acclaimed, extended run at New York Theatre Workshop, and the immersive Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, currently running at the Barrow Street Theatre. The New Group’s revival of Sweet Charity starring Sutton Foster follows with six nominations, including Outstanding Revival.

In the category of plays, Paula Vogel’s Indecent and J.T. Rogers’ Oslo, both of which have subsequently transferred to Broadway, earned a total of four nominations. Also with four nominations were MCC Theater’s Yen, and Playwrights Horizons’ production of A Life.

This year’s Lortel honorees include costume designer William Ivey Long, who will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award; Lynn Nottage, who will be inducted onto the famed Playwrights’ Sidewalk in front of the Lucille Lortel Theatre; and theatre executive Harold Wolpert, who will be honored with the Edith Oliver Service to Off-Broadway Award.
