Actor Anthony Boyle wowed London audiences and critics when he originated the role of Scorpius Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts One and Two—winning the 2017 Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Play.
Now, the young star is nominated for 2018 Drama Desk and Tony Awards for his work in the role on Broadway. Still, joining the Potter universe may be the greatest honor of all. The eighth story in the Harry Potter saga, Cursed Child is an original story, but also a new way of seeing the Harry Potter world come to life. “It has a real old-time Victorian magical feel,” says Boyle of this theatrical version. “There’s no CGI, there’s no million-dollar computers creating things. It feels like real magic happening before your eyes.”
Boyle also shares the person behind the scenes without whom he couldn’t give his lauded onstage performance, as well as the person onstage whom he values most. “I play opposite Sam Clemmett, who plays Albus. We sort of became best pals. He's the best actor I've ever worked with in terms of we have such a rapport and it's really interesting because most nights feel different. I think he’s a very special performer.”
