News 42nd Street To Be Revived at London's Theatre Royal, Drury Lane Mark Bramble will direct the backstage musical at its original London home.
42nd Street opened August 25, 1980 Martha Swope

42nd Street, the 1980 Broadway musical based on the 1933 film of the same name, is returning to London's Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, where the Broadway production transferred in 1984.

It will begin performances March 20, 2017 prior to an official opening April 4. Produced by Michael Linnit and Michael Grade for Gate Ventures PLC, it will be directed by Mark Bramble, who authored the original book, and has directed many previous productions including the 2001 Broadway revival at the Ford Center (now the Lyric).

In a press statement, Bramble commented, “The original production had the look of a Warner Brothers black and white film. This time we're doing an MGM Technicolor version of 42nd Street with additional songs and dances. The theme of the show speaks louder today than ever before: follow your bliss and with talent and hard work dreams can come true. I’m delighted that Linnit/Grade are bringing our song and dance extravaganza to the magnificent Theatre Royal Drury Lane.”

The production will feature choreography by Randy Skinner and will be designed by Douglas W. Schmidt, with costumes by Roger Kirk, all reprising the duties they fulfilled on the 2001 Broadway revival. Casting is still to be announced.
