Brandon Williams may be making his Broadway debut with Gettin’ the Band Back Together, but he is no newbie to comedy. And he brings all of his considerable expertise to the laughable villain of Sayreville, New Jersey, Tygen Billows.

The high school arch nemesis of leading man Mitch, who loses his job as a New York City stock broker and moves back in with his mother in Jersey, Tygen—still every bit the blowhard he was as a teen but now in possession ofhalf the real estate in the county—threatens to foreclose on Mitch’s mother’s house. With no other choice, so Mitch challenges Tygen to a rematch Battle of the Bands to win back the property.

Between his spot-on timing and hilarious one-liners, Williams is the summer’s comic breakout. Here are five inspirations behind his deliciously over-the-top performance.
