An "irreverent and voyeuristic look at lust and longing in the age of sexual psycho-pop," Scott Manus' Sleeping With Mom & Dad opens at NY's 78th Street Theatre, Jan. 16. Six "normal," attractive, single men and women -- on the outside, are actually anxious, over-analyzed romantics seeking relationships in the big city. As one character puts it, "What is romantic in film is perceived in real life as pathetic or desperate."
Warren Etheredge directs the comedy, which also features videos by comedienne Beth Littleford. Etheredge and Littleford are producing the piece for their company, Rabbit Ahead.
Playwright Manus did graduate work in psychology at Harvard and is a frequent contributor to the New York Press. Included in the cast are Larry Bell, Samantha Brown, Bruce Meakem, Andy Meyer, Abagail [sic] Walker, Catherine Zambri and Dorothy Walker. Shaun Motley designed the sets, Neslihan Danisman the costumes, Anne Duston Cheney the lighting.
Sleeping With Mom & Dad runs to Feb. 2 at the 78th Street Theatre Lab. For tickets ($12) and information, call (212) 946-5017.
