Broadway actress Betsy Wolfe (Bullets Over Broadway) has been crowned with the star role of Elsa in the forthcoming stage adaptation of Disney's hit animated film musical Frozen, according to The New York Post.

She would take the role originally voiced in the animated film by Idina Menzel, including the megahit song “Let It Go.”

A Disney spokesperson contested the report and said no one has been officially cast yet.

On Broadway Wolfe played Ellen, the frustrated fiance in Woody Allen's 2014 Bullets Over Broadway and Rosa Bud in the 2012 revival of The Mystery of Edwin Drood. She also starred in the Second Stage revival of The Last Five Years and played supporting roles in Everyday Rapture and 110 in the Shade.

The Post also reported that the show will go into Broadway's St. James Theatre “in two years.”

That would fit with the previously announced time frame of the musical, which is scheduled to premiere at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts in August 2017 prior to a spring 2018 Broadway arrival.

Wolfe previously performed “Let It Go” in a Carnegie Hall concert with co-composer Robert Lopez at the piano.

The out-of-town premiere will play Denver Center's Buell Theatre with official dates to be announced. Denver is also where Disney's stage adaptation of The Little Mermaid tested its legs in 2007 prior to its Broadway arrival.

The production will reunite three members of the movie’s creative team: songwriters Robert Lopez (The Book of Mormon, Avenue Q) and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, who will write additional original songs for the stage incarnation, and screenwriter and co-director Jennifer Lee, who will write the musical’s book.

The production will be directed by Alex Timbers (Here Lies Love, Peter and the Starcatcher, Mozart in the Jungle) and choreographed by Peter Darling (Matilda and a Tony winner for Billy Elliot). Anderson, Lopez and Timbers also collaborated on an original stage musical, Up Here, which had a tryout last summer. Additional information will be announced at a future date.

Creating the visual world of Frozen on stage are Tony Award-winning scenic and costume designer Bob Crowley (Mary Poppins, Aladdin, An American in Paris) and Tony-winning lighting designer Natasha Katz (Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, School of Rock).

Two-time Tony Award and Grammy winner Stephen Oremus (The Book of Mormon, Wicked, Kinky Boots, The Wiz Live!) is musical supervisor. Oremus also arranged music for the original animated version of "Frozen." Four-time Tony Award nominee Peter Hylenski (After Midnight, The Scottsboro Boys) is the show's sound designer.

Frozen is being produced by Disney Theatrical Productions, under the direction of Thomas Schumacher. It's the latest in a series of stage adaptations of Disney animated films that has included Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Tarzan, The Little Mermaid and Aladdin.
