News A Charlie Brown Christmas Begins in Chicago Tonight The Peanuts gang get together to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas at Chicago's Broadway Playhouse Nov. 14 as performances begin for A Charlie Brown Christmas, based on the popular television program by Bill Melendez and Lee Mendelson.

Presented by Emerald City Theatre, A Charlie Brown Christmas is adapted for the stage by Eric Schaeffer; it is presented by special arrangement with Arthur Whitelaw and Ruby Persson. Performances run through Jan. 3, 2016.  

"‘Tis the season to celebrate everyone’s favorite Peanuts pals as they dig past the commercialized gimmicks of presents and decorations to rediscover the true meaning of Christmas," states a description on the show's website. "Through a pageant and a spindly tree, Charlie Brown and friends bring the holiday spirit back to life for families once again!"

Helmed by Ernie Nolan, the cast features David Wesley Mitchell, Jamie Finkenthal, Denzel Love, Jeff Kurysz, Sadie Rose Glaspey, Alex Benjamin, Darian Tene, Mary-Margaret Roberts, Elizabeth Sandej-Schmidt, Ethan Warren, Isabella Karina Coelho and Micah Kronlokken.

The production team includes music director Austin Cook, lighting designer Daniel Friedman, set/costume designer Robert Kuhn, sound designer Chris LaPorte, resident props designer Tierra G. Novy, puppet designer Lolly Extract, projection designer Michael Stanfill, associate producer Morgan Madison, stage manager Mina Slater and assistant stage manager Caitie Noller.

Emerald City's production joins other stage adaptations of the long-running and well-known comic strip "Peanuts," created by Charles M. Schulz in the 1950's, including the Tony-winning Broadway musical You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown and Bert V. Royal's Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead.
