SEATTLE -- A Contemporary Theatre is soliciting submissions for its 1999 FirstACT new play development program.

Four full-length plays will be commissioned. Those playwrights chosen will receive $1000: $500 payable upon commission and $500 upon completion of the script. Each play will receive a two-week workshop with professional actors, dramaturgs, and directors. The workshop will culminate in public readings at ACT.

Interested playwrights should submit a one page proposal outlining the project and playwright's interest in writing it; a resume; and a copy of a previously written play. Materials should be accompanied by an SASE for return. All materials should be addressed:

Application deadline is April 15, 1998, and decisions will be made by May 15, 1998.

The playwrights chosen last year for this year's series were S.P. Mikowski, Y. York, KC Davis and Paul Mullin.
