Diana celebrated the official opening of its world premiere at La Jolla Playhouse March 3. Jeanna de Waal stars in the title role as the late Princess of Wales.

The musical has already been extended twice at the California venue, with performances scheduled through April 14. Also in the show are Erin Davie (Side Show) as Camilla Parker Bowles, Roe Hartrampf (Off-Broadway’s Bad Guys) as Prince Charles, and Tony winner Judy Kaye (The Phantom of the Opera) as Queen Elizabeth.

The production, crafted by the creative team behind Memphis (Joe DiPietro, composer-lyricist David Bryan, and director Christopher Ashley), focuses on Princess Diana’s marriage to Prince Charles in 1981. Some scenes from her childhood and post-separation are also portrayed on stage.

Rounding out the cast are ensemble members Holly Ann Butler, Taylor Coleman, Eric Coles, Bruce Dow, Evan Duff, Madison Noelle Hall, Shaye Hopkins, Nicole Javier, Justin Keats, Gareth Keegan, Nathan Lucrezio, Tomas Matos, Allyn Moriyon, Lauren Livia Muehl, Jamen Nanthakumar, Enrico Nassi, Katheryne Penny, Lindsay Roberts, Tara Shoemaker and Bethany Ann Tesarck.

Diana features choreography by Kelly Devine, sets by David Zinn, costumes by William Ivey Long, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Gareth Owen, and orchestrations by John Clancy. Casting is by Telsey + Company.
