The American premiere of The Rolling Stone began performances June 20 at Lincoln Center Theater ahead of a July 15 opening night. The production, directed by Saheem Ali (Fireflies, Sugar in Our Wounds), is scheduled to run through August 25 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater.
Written by Chris Urch, the new family drama tells the story of a gay man in Uganda and his church pastor brother who clash over the sexuality he is forced to hide under the country's extreme laws.

Directed by Saheem Ali, The Rolling Stone stars Ato Blankson-Wood as Dembe, Latoya Edwards as Wummie, Robert Gilbert as Sam, Myra Lucretia Taylor as Mama, Adenike Thomas as Naome, and James Udom as Joe.
The play made its world premiere at the Royale Exchange Theatre in England, where it won the Manchester Theatre Award for Best New Play and moved to London, where it won an Off-West End Award.
The LCT production features sets by Arnulfo Maldonado, costumes by Dede Ayite, lighting by Japhy Weideman, and original music and sound design by Justin Ellington.
