On June 24, Stephen Sondheim joined Jason Robert Brown for his 50th SubCulture Residency Concert at Town Hall in an evening benefiting the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. The theatrical giants played alongside each other in a concert featuring songs from both of their repertoires.

The duo was joined by a 16-piece orchestra, as well as guest performers Katrina Lenk, Shoshana Bean, Joshua Henry, and Rob McClure, along with suprirse guest Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Brown's SubCulture residency launched in December 2014. Past performers have included composers Stephen Schwartz and Tom Kitt in a dueling pianos-style performance, as well as singers Bean, Norbert Leo Butz, Carolee Carmello, Gavin Creel, Sutton Foster, Christopher Jackson, Mykal Kilgore, Lindsay Mendez, Kelli O’Hara, and Steven Pasquale.
