The Milwaukee Repertory Theatre production of Lloyd Suh's The Chinese Lady began performances February 13, in a limited run set to wrap up March 24. The production, directed by May Adrales, stars Lisa Helmi Johanson as historical figure Afong Moy, America's first Chinese immigrant along side Jon Norman Schneider as Atung. The play was originally produced by Ma-Yi Theater and Barrington Stage Company in 2018.

The Chinese Lady tells the story of Afong Moy, a Chinese immigrant who "was brought from Beijing to America ad put on display as the 'Chinese Lady.' Over the next 45 years, she performed in a side show that both defined and challenged her own view of herself, as she witnessed stunning transformations in the United States."
