American Conservatory Theatre’s production of The Great Leap by Lauren Yee is set to open March 13 after beginning preview performances March 6. The production, directed by Lisa Peterson, is scheduled to run through March 31.

Inspired by events from her father’s life and (short-lived) basketball career, Yee's The Great Leap weaves a tale of history and personal identity. Set in San Francisco in 1989, the play follows Manford Lum, a basketball player who talks his way onto a college team just before they travel to Beijing for a “friendship” game. When they arrive, China is in the throes of the post-Cultural Revolution era, and Manford must juggle international politics and his own personal history.

The ACT production stars Tony Award winner BD Wong (Wen Chang), Tim Lui (Manford), Ruibo Qian (Connie), and Arye Gross (Saul).
