PlayBlog A Preview to Ingmar Bergman's Autumn Sonata at Yale Rep (Video) The U.S. premiere of Wendy Weckwerth's adaptation of the 1978 Ingmar Bergman film Autumn Sonata, about a mother and daughter attempting to reconnect, will officially open April 21 at the Yale Repertory Theatre.

The production will star Candy Buckley (Bernarda Alba, After the Fall) as Charlotte and Rebecca Henderson (The Retributionists, A Kind of Alaska) as her daughter, Eva. The cast will also include Merritt Janson, Olek Krupa and Paul Brantley as the cellist.

According to Yale Rep, "Charlotte a celebrated classical pianist who has forged a successful career at the expense of her family, attempts to reconcile with her daughter Eva whom she has not seen in seven years. Over the course of one evening, they confront their darkest feelings and resentments. A tightly-wound psychological study of the complicated relationship between mothers and daughters, Autumn Sonata reveals that living and loving—like mastering notes on a piano—are skills that must be practiced every day."

The production will run through May 7.
