Sunset Boulevard, the Andrew Lloyd Webber-Don Black-Christopher Hampton musical, begins performances July 6 at the Music Theatre of Wichita. Directed by Mark Madama, the musical runs through July 10 and stars Ann Morrison (Lovemusik, Merrily We Roll Along) as Norma Desmond.

The cast also features Chris Peluso (Lestat, Assassins) as Joe Gillis, Nicholas Saverine as Max, Kaleigh Cronin as Betty, Charles Parker as Cecil B. DeMille, Cody Davis as Artie and Timothy W. Robu as Sheldrake.

Here, Peluso, Morrison, Cronin and Saverine talk about their characters and the themes of the show, as well as offer a glimpse into the rehearsal process of their version of Sunset Boulevard.

Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard is based on the 1950 movie of the same name, which featured Gloria Swanson as the reclusive Norma Desmond who falls in love with an unlucky writer — Joe Gillis — who happens upon her home by accident. William Holden played Gillis in the film, which was directed by the late Billy Wilder. Swanson, Holden and Wilder all received Academy Award nominations for their work.
