News A Sondheim Triptych to Play Australia; Casting and Directors Announced To celebrate Stephen Sondheim's recent 80th birthday, Melbourne Recital Centre and Magnormos will present A Sondheim Triptych this fall at Elisabeth Murdoch Hall in Melbourne, Australia.

Three of Sondheim's rarely produced works will be presented one night each. The schedule includes Saturday Night (Sept. 20 at 8 PM), Merrily We Roll Along (Sept. 27 at 8 PM) and Anyone Can Whistle (Oct. 4 at 8 PM).

Saturday Night, which features a score by Sondheim and a book by Julius J. Epstein and Philip G.Epstein, will be directed by Terence O'Connell with musical direction by Vicky Jacobs. The cast will include Chris Durling (Fame, High School Musical), Sam Ludeman (Fame, Guys and Dolls), Matt McFarlane (Priscilla Queen of the Desert), Lara Threw ([title of show]), Zac Tyler and Claire George (Boy from Oz).

Merrily We Roll Along, penned by Sondheim (score) and George Furth (book), will be directed by Shaun Murphy with musical direction by Ben Kiley. The cast will include Chris Parker (Mamma Mia!), Laura Fitzpatrick ([title of show], My Fair Lady), Stephen Wheat (Shout!, Dusty), Lisa-Marie Parker (Cats) and Hester Van der Vyver (The Drowsy Chaperone).

Arthur Laurents and Sondheim's Anyone Can Whistle, which will be directed by Aaron Joyner with musical direction by Laura Tipoki, will feature Anne Wood (Mamma Mia!), Patrice Tipoki (Wicked, The Lion King), Dan Humphris (We Will Rock You), Don Bridges (Fiddler on the Roof, Cosi), Sally Bourne (Yummy, Australia’s original Annie) and music theatre students from APO Arts Academy.
