News Abdulrazzak Wins Devine Award for Baghdad Wedding The 2008 George Devine Award will be given to playwright Hassan Abdulrazzak for his play Baghdad Wedding, according to Variety.

Presented by London's Royal Court Theatre, the award includes a £10,000 cash prize. Among the previous recipients of the award are Mike Leigh, Martin McDonagh, Conor McPherson and Rebecca Gilman. Baghdad Wedding premiered at London's Soho Theatre in 2007. Lisa Goldman directed the production, which concerns "the aftermath of an attack on a wedding party in Iraq," according to the trade paper. BBC Radio 3 subsequently broadcast the play in January 2008.

The George Devine Award is named after the founding artistic director of the Royal Court Theatre.
