News Abe Lincoln and Uncle Tom in the White House Will Play the Guthrie; Complete Cast Announced The Guthrie Theater has announced casting for the Carlyle Brown & Company's upcoming production of Carlyle Brown's Abe Lincoln and Uncle Tom in the White House, which will begin previews March 21 in the Dowling Studio.

Also directed by playwright Brown, performances will continue through April 6.

The cast will feature Steve Hendrickson (Abraham Lincoln), James A. Williams (Uncle Tom), Jodi Kellogg (Mary Todd Lincoln) and India Gurley (Elizabeth Keckley).

"Alone in the Executive Office," press notes state, "President Abraham Lincoln struggles with signing the Emancipation Proclamation when he is mysteriously visited by Uncle Tom, the fictional character in Harriet Beecher Stowe's abolitionist novel 'Uncle Tom's Cabin or Life Among the Lowly.' Throughout one late night and into the dawning day, these two iconic characters from life and literature attempt to understand each other across a chasm of race in the midst of the Civil War, and find themselves crossing over into each other’s world in a tale of suffering, self-discovery and redemption."

The artistic team includes set designer Joe Stanley, costume designer Claire Brauch, lighting designer Mike Wangen, sound designer C. Andrew Mayer and properties designer Kellie Larson.
