News Actress Mariette Hartley to Be Next Fraulein Schneider in Cabaret Mariette Hartley will assume the role of Fraulein Schneider in early March in the current Broadway revival of Cabaret. No specific date for the replacement of Alma Cuervo, who currently plays the role, have been announced.

Hartley, known for her work on television shows including "Rockford Files," "WIOU," and "Goodnight Beantown," has appeared on the stage recently in the national touring company of Copenhagen. Other credits include Detective Story, Sylvia, Ancestral Voices, 42nd Street, Lion in Winter and the west coast premiere of Tom Stoppard's The Seagull at the Old Globe under the direction of Jack O'Brien.

Neil Patrick Harris (Proof) currently heads up the cast as the Emcee. Tom Bosley (Herr Schultz) and Deborah Gibson (Sally Bowles) also star with Rick Holmes, Penny Ayn Maas and Peter Benson.

The musical directed by Sam Mendes with Rob Marshall featuring the music of Kander, the lyrics of Ebb and book by Joe Masteroff, opened on Broadway March 19, 1998. It won Tony Awards that year including Best Revival of a Musical.

Roundabout Theatre Company artistic director Todd Haimes told Playbill On-Line (Aug. 2002) that Cabaret will play one more year at the space and then close to make way for a revival of Stephen Sondheim's Assassins.
