News Adam Long to Write, Direct and Co-Star in Satan Sings Mostly Sondheim at London's Jermyn Street Theatre Adam Long, best known as the co-writer and director of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged), which ran in the West End for nine years and had two Off-Broadway seasons, will write, direct and co-star in Satan Sings Mostly Stephen Sondheim, beginning performances at London's Jermyn Street Theatre March 11 for a run through March 29.

Described as a new comedy, with some music, by Adam Long, it is stated in press materials that "the producers of the show wish to make it absolutely clear that the show contains no music by Stephen Sondheim and is not endorsed by Stephen Sondheim or anyone who knows him."

The show tells the story of Satan, the multi-talented, award-winning singer/dancer/actor who came to Earth in the early 1960s because he was very excited about what was happening in the world of musical theatre. It is a chronicle of Satan's desperate attempt to secure the rights to Sondheim's music for a one-night musical extravaganza at the London Palladium. With the help of his New York manager, Robert Schifrin, Satan attempts to sing, dance and schmooze his way into Sondheim's heart - a difficult task, as Sondheim is skeptical of having his name associated with Satan.

Long will play Satan opposite Mark Caven as Robert Schifrin.

In addition to The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged), Long's other stage shows include Dickens Unplugged (Comedy Theatre, London), The Complete History of America (abridged) (Criterion Theatre, London) and Deconstructing Albert (The Crucible Theatre, Sheffield). His most recent writing/directing work for stage was Dickens Abridged (Arts Theatre, London). He has also written for Disney ("Dude That’s My Ghost," "History on Toast" and "Last Minute Book Reports"), PBS ("The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)"), Channel Four ("Trigger Happy TV" and "The Ring Reduced"), BBC Radio Four ("The History Boys Condensed," "Condensed Histories of the British Political Parties" and "Home Truths") and Lucasfilm and BSkyB ("Star Wars Shortened").

Craven's theatre credits include The Complete Works of Shakespeare (abridged) and The Complete History of America (Criterion Theatre), Beauty and the Beast (Dominion Theatre), Jackie: An American Life (Queen's Theatre) and Killing Jessica (Savoy Theatre). It is produced by Simon Cummin, the founder and managing director of SJC Productions, with which he has produced over 25 shows.
