Attention, theatre-loving Comic Con fans! Playbill is back for 2023's New York Comic Con with a series of panels no theatre fan will want to miss. This year's Con runs October 12-15 at the Javits Center in New York City.
Broadway favorite Adam Pascal will be on hand for a panel covering Frank Wildhorn's Death Note: The Musical. Based on the best-selling Japanese manga series of the same name by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata/Sheuisha, the work has received acclaimed productions in Japan and Korea, along with two sold-out concert engagements in London, the first starring Pascal. The panel will offer a sneak peek into the developing production, which features music by Wildhorn, lyrics by Jack Murphy, a book by Ivan Menchell, and orchestrations and arrangements by Jason Howland. The panel will be held October 14 at 10:30 AM, with additional panelists to be announced.
We will dig into Broadway's Wicked October 13 at 4:30 PM with "Defying Gravity: Wicked's Enduring Legacy." Coinciding with the show's 20th Broadway anniversary, the panel will feature special appearances, thrillifying surprises, and an inside look at the magic behind this audience favorite. Panelists will be announced in the coming days.
The Playbill Store will also return to New York Comic Con this year, located on the Show Floor. From Playbill cover cards to game cards, magnets, mystery bags, enamel pins, Parodybills, and more, stop by for a host of Broadway-inspired merchandise. We'll also be bringing some of Broadway, television, film, and comic's biggest stars to the Playbill Store Booth for a chance to meet, take photos, and get autographs. A schedule of guest signings and photos ops will be available soon.
Past attendees of New York Comic Con will welcome the return of Playbill's "The Big Broadway Nerd Panel" October 12 at 1:30 PM and "The Broadway Bard Party" October 15 at 10 AM. Details and panelists for both of these are to be announced.
