The show has been doing brisk business since it began Broadway previews at the Lunt-Fontanne. A complete tour schedule will be announced in the coming weeks. No casting has been announced for the tour.
The national tour of The Addams Family "will be the first Broadway musical to take advantage of the incentive programs offered by Louisiana Entertainment, the state's entertainment industry development office."
In the original musical, which is not drawn from past "Addams" film or TV plots, teen-age Wednesday Addams falls in love with a "normal" boy, Lucas, from Ohio. When he and his folks come to visit, all hell breaks loose in the haunted mansion the Addams Family calls home. Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth play the heads of household, Gomez and Morticia, respectively.
The Addams Family features a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, and music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa. The production is directed and designed (sets and costumes) by Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch, with creative consultation by Jerry Zaks and choreography by Sergio Trujillo. Lighting design is by Natasha Katz, sound design by Acme Sound Partners and puppetry by Basil Twist.
The musical began on Broadway March 8 and has already grossed $9,118,217 in its first seven weeks (an average of over $1.3 million per week).
Prior to Broadway, the musical grossed $12,031,010 during eight weeks at the Oriental Theatre in Chicago.
