Joining Amy Staats in the world premiere of her play Eddie and Dave at Atlantic Theater Company this winter will be Vanessa Aspillaga (Amy and the Orphans), Megan Hill (Do You Feel Anger), Omer Abbas Salem (Off-Broadway debut), and Adina Verson (Collective Rage: A Play in 5 Betties, Indecent).

The play, a story of hubris, friendship, family, fame, and musical genius, will be directed by Margot Bordelon (Plot Points in Our Sexual Development). Performances will begin January 10, 2019, in Atlantic's Stage 2, where the production will officially open January 22.
Eddie and Dave is a gender-bending retelling of the rise and fall of Pasadena’s most groundbreaking ’80s rockers told through the foggy lens of a lonely, out-of-work MTV-VJ. Playwright Staats will play Eddie, and Hill will play Dave.
Eddie and Dave will feature scenic design by Reid Thompson, costume design by Montana Levi Blanco, lighting design by Jiyoun Chang, sound design by Palmer Hefferan, original compositions by Michael Thurber, projections by Shawn Boyle, and casting by Caparelliotis Casting: Lauren Port, CSA.
Staats is Atlantic Theater Company's 2017–2018 playwright in residence. Eddie and Dave is the capstone of her yearlong residency, supported by The Tow Foundation, with the theatre.
A new scholarship will send three young writers to the 2026 International Thespian Festival to work directly with Playbill on coverage of the week-long event.
2025 is her "soft launch" into theatre: Carousel inspired her album A Matter of Time, she sang with Lin-Manuel Miranda, and she wants to write a musical.
