The Alliance Theatre presents Moby Dick, a new aerial and acrobatic take on the Herman Melville novel by the Tony Award-winning Lookingglass Theatre Company, beginning October 12. David Catlin, founding ensemble member of Chicago’s Lookingglass Theatre Company, has adapted the classic novel for the stage and directs.

The production stars Jamie Abelson (Ishmael), Christopher Donahue (Ahab) and Adeoye Mabogunje (Queequeg) with Kelley Abell, Walter Owen Briggs, Cordelia Dewdney, Micah Figueroa, Kasey Foster, Raymond Fox and Javen Ulambayar.

Opening night is set for October 19 for a run through October 30.

According to Alliance, “Bold trapeze and acrobatic work turn this seafaring American classic into a thrilling experiment in aerial storytelling. Audiences will set sail for an epic adventure with Captain Ahab and his crew in this harrowing quest for the great white whale. This jaw-dropping production delighted Chicago audiences, young and old.”

The creative team includes set designer Courtney O’Neill, costume designer Sully Ratke, lighting designer William C. Kirkham, sound designer and composer Rick Sims, aerial/acrobatic choreographer Sylvia Hernandez-DiStasi, dialect coach Kathy Logelin and rigging designer Isaac Schoepp.

Moby Dick was originally produced by Lookingglass Theatre Company in association with Actors Gymnasium of Chicago. This production is co-produced with Arena Stage and South Coast Repertory. The Chicago-based Lookingglass last presented on the Alliance Stage in 2010 with their imaginative production of Lookingglass Alice.

Two special matinee performances for students will take place October 20 and October 27 at 10:30 AM. For ticket information, contact [email protected] or call (404) 733-4661.
