Classic Arts News Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra to Release First CD Jazz at Lincoln Center's Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra will release its first CD later this month on the Palmetto Records label, JALC announced.
Bandleader Arturo O'Farrill and his group recorded the live disc, titled Una Noche Inolvidable ("an unforgettable night"), during their debut at JALC's new Frederick P. Rose Hall on January 28. It includes guest appearances by vocalists Herman Olivera and Claudia Acuê±a.

"This concert was a perfect vehicle for our first experience in Jazz at Lincoln Center's Rose Theater," O'Farrill said. "The 'golden sound' and the natural warmth in the theater's acoustics generates the beauty of the pure sound of percussion, trumpets, saxes, and vocals all intermingling in a big, brassy explosion of pure timba (groove)."

The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, JALC's other house band, released its last album on Palmetto, having signed with the label after several releases on Sony/Columbia.
