News Afterlife x 1: Broadway's Life x 3 Closes July 29 The limited run of Life x 3, French dramatist Yasmina Reza's new work, which officially opened March 31 at Circle in the Square, will close on June 29. In early April, shortly after opening, the play announced a brief extension to July 6, but later reverted back the original end date.

Helen Hunt, John Turturro, Brent Spiner and Linda Emond are two warring couples (warring with the other marrieds; warring within their own marriages) acting out a trio of versions of the same awful evening.

The story begins as Hunt and Turturro are trying out several unsuccessful methods for putting their son to bed. Suddenly, their dinner guests arrive, a renowned scientist (Spiner), whom the insecure Turturro hopes will recommend him for a promotion, and his defeated, dipsomaniacal wife (Emond). One problem — the twosome have shown up 24 hours early!

The unexpected evening then splits into a trio of possible outcomes, all fraught with tension and roiling undercurrents — with a soon-to-be published academic paper, a telephone call, the recalcitrant tot, a store of Cheez-its and Chocolate Fingers, several bottles of white wine and four lifetimes of frustration all playing a part.

The show marked "Mad About You" star Hunt's first Broadway job since 1998's Twelfth Night at Lincoln Center Theater. Spiner and Emond had previously acted opposite each other as John and Abagail Adams in the recent revival of 1776. Suprisingly, the show marked the Broadway debut of Turturro, who has a long list of Off-Broadway theatre credits.

Emond netted the play's single Tony Award nomination.
