Young people, New York City, music. Those are the ingredients that matter in a new musical comedy, I Sing!, beginning Off-Broadway previews June 1 at the Maverick Theatre in Manhattan. Benjamin Salka directs the new work he co-wrote with composer Eli Bolin and lyricist Sam Forman. The libretto is by Bolin, Forman and Salka.

The show is billed as exploring "the wild discoveries and inevitable losses of being young, vibrant and alive today in New York City." The tuner follows five Gen Y kids in their 20s and is somewhat inspired by the lives of the twentysomething creative team, who attended Northwestern University together. The characters "mix and mingle, forming relationships as intimate, intricate, ambivalent and devastating as anything you will ever find in the Big Apple," according to press notes. Official opening is June 14.

The cast includes newcomers Billy Eichner, Jeff Juday, Jodie Langel, Michael Raine and Meredith Zeitlin.

Arik Ahitov, Jeff Beil and Samuel Franco produce. Vadim Feichtner is musical director. Designers are Eric L. Renschler (set), Steven Epstein (costumes) and Ben Stanton (lighting).

Tickets are $40. The 140-seat Maverick Theatre is at 307 W. 26th Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues. Performances play daily for the first few weeks of the run, although there are no shows June 4, 11, 18 and 19. For ticket information, call (212) 239-6200.
