News Aida Star Nominated for Two NAACP Image Awards It's been an exciting few months for Tony Award winner Heather Headley.

Not only was the singer-actress nominated for two Grammy Awards last month — Best New Artist and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance — but the former star of Aida was nominated for two NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) Image Awards earlier this week. Headley was nominated in the Outstanding New Artist and the Outstanding Female Artist categories. Her competition in the former field includes Beyonce, Anthony Hamilton, Ruben Studdard and Byron Cage, and she will vie for the latter award against Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Aretha Franklin and Mary J. Blige. Heather Headley earned a Tony Award for her performance in the title role of Disney's Aida. She has also appeared on Broadway as Nala in The Lion King, in the all-star benefit concert of Dreamgirls and the City Center Encores! production of Do Re Mi. Her debut R&B recording, "This Is Who I Am," was released last year on the RCA label. For more information about the award-winning artist, go to www.heatherheadley.com.

The NAACP Image Awards will be taped March 6 in Los Angeles and will air on FOX-TV on March 11; check local listings.
