News   Aladdin's Leading Players Extend Contracts Through 2016
Adam Jacobs (Aladdin), Tony Award nominee Jonathan Freeman (Jafar), Tony Award winner James Monroe Iglehart (Genie) and Courtney Reed (Jasmine) have extended their contracts with the critically acclaimed Disney musical #Aladdin through Feb. 21, 2016.

The four actors have led the company since its pilot production at Seattle’s Fifth Avenue Theatre in summer 2011 and through the Broadway opening March 20, 2014, at the New Amsterdam Theatre.

Also continuing in their principal roles are original cast members Brian Gonzales and Jonathan Schwartz as Aladdin’s sidekicks Babkak and Omar, respectively, as well as Clifton Davis as Sultan, Don Darryl Rivera as Iago, Merwin Foard as the standby for Jafar/Sultan and Steel Burkhardt, who recently joined the production as Kassim.

The production is welcoming new principal cast member Trevor Dion Nicholas (standby for Genie/Babkak) to the company beginning next month.

Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions, the show features music by Tony Award and eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken, lyrics by two-time Oscar winner Howard Ashman, three-time Tony Award and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice and four-time Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin, with a book by Beguelin, and is directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw.

Aladdin is designed by six-time Tony-winning scenic designer Bob Crowley, three-time Tony-winning lighting designer Natasha Katz, two-time Tony-winning costume designer Gregg Barnes and sound designer Ken Travis.

The production team also includes illusion designer Jim Steinmeyer, hair designer Josh Marquette and makeup designer Milagros Medina-Cerdeira. The music team is headed by music supervisor and music director Michael Kosarin, who also created the vocal and incidental music arrangements, joined by orchestrator Danny Troob and dance music arranger Glen Kelly.
