On December 1, following a ten-week hiatus, Alan Cumming returns to the role that won him last year's Tony Award: the Emcee in Cabaret.

While on hiatus, Cumming filmed segments of the new film adaptation of Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus, directed by Lion King's Julie Taymor and co-starring Anthony Hopkins and Jessica Lange. Robert Sella (Side Man), who filled in for the absent Cumming, will play his last performance Nov. 29.

Cumming is no stranger to celluloid. Prior to making a splash in the U.S. with Cabaret, the 33-year-old Scottish actor had small but noteworthy roles in "Romy and Michele's High School Reunion," "Spice World," and "Circle of Friends".

Cumming is slated to stay with Cabaret until March 1999; after that no replacement Emcee has been announced. Cumming joins a cast including Jennifer Jason Leigh as Sally Bowles, Ron Rifkin as Herr Schultz, Blair Brown as Fraulein Schneider, John Benjamin Hickey as Cliff, Denis O'Hare as Ernst and Michele Pawk as Fraulein Kost. Leigh and Brown replaced Natasha Richardson and Mary Louise Wilson, respectively.
