Tony and Oscar winner Alan Menken is writing music for the production, which will also feature choreography by Sergio Trujillo and musical direction by Ron Melrose. Producers are Dodger Properties and Tommy Mottola.

Showbiz411 had previously reported that Robert De Niro would direct the musical; however, the Academy Award winner is not mentioned in the Equity posting.

The show's music "tends toward Doo-Wop."

"Set against the turbulent 1960s," A Bronx Tale The Musical, according to the casting notice, "follows a young Italian-American teenager finding his path in life as guided by two father figures."

Bronx Tale — which Palminteri performed in Los Angeles and Off-Broadway in the late '80s, inspiring the 1993 film of the same name — began previews at Broadway's Walter Kerr Theatre Oct. 4, 2007, and officially opened Oct. 25. The 18-week run, which had been scheduled to end Feb. 10, was extended through Feb. 24 due to ticket demand. The Jerry Zaks-directed production played a total of 19 previews and 108 regular performances.

Go Productions, in association with Jujamcyn Theaters, produced the New York run. The show was one of the many darkened by the 2007 stagehands strike.

In A Bronx Tale, Palminteri plays 18 roles that depict "a rough childhood on Bronx streets populated by a cast of friends and enemies," according to previous press notes.

Palminteri has also been seen on screen in "The Usual Suspects" and "Bullets Over Broadway"; he received an Academy Award nomination for his work in the latter. He was also seen in the 2002 Al Pacino production of The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui
