Chicago News Aleshea Harris' What to Send Up When It Goes Down, More in Upcoming Lookingglass Theatre Company Season

The Chicago-based theatre company is celebrating its 35th anniversary.

Aleshea HarrisWhat to Send Up When It Goes Down will head to Chicago via Lookingglass Theatre Company, joining their upcoming 35th season. The participatory work, which premiered Off-Broadway in 2018 and has subsequently played productions at American Repertory Theatre, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, The Public Theater, and Playwrights Horizons, will run at the Chicago theatre September 24–October 16.

Also in the newly announced season is Sunset 1919, memorializing Eugene Williams, whose murder marked the beginning of the 1919 Chicago Race Riots, presented June 27; Chicago's 50 Wards: A Civic Mosaic, a film series presenting five short films in the fall; an encore run of the Mary Zimmerman The Steadfast Tin Soldier November 13–January 8, 2023; the world premiere of Lookingglass Artistic Associate Sara Gmitter's Villette, based on the Charlotte Brontë novel and running February 8–April 23, 2023; and Lucy and Charlie‘s Honeymoon, a world premiere musical by Lookingglass Artistic Associate Matthew C. Yee running May 24–August 13, 2023.

“It’s hard to believe we are celebrating 35 years of creating new work together!” says Artistic Director Heidi Stillman. “As we celebrate the past and look towards the future, it’s fitting that this season has work from some of our earliest artistic collective members, and our very newest.”
