Directed by herself, Mexican actress Susana Alexander is back in Willy Russell's Shirley Valentine (Solo para Mujeres...Y Uno que Otro Curioso!), which opened Feb. 19 at the Foro Stanistablas in Mexico City for an open-ended run. The long title in Spanish for this one-woman show means in English "Just for Women...and for Some Curious Men Too!".

This is the first time that Shirley Valentine is staged in Mexico. British author Willy Russell is also well-known for writing the book, music and lyrics of the international musical hit Blood Brothers, which is scheduled to premiere in Mexico City in May.

In Shirley Valentine, Alexander will play Shirley Valentine-Bradshaw, an English housewife and mother who at 42 wants to get back in touch with the dreams of her rebellious youth, and who gets her chance when a friend invites her for a two-week holiday in Greece. Alexander is a very well known actress and director in Mexico. She recently starred in the highly successful comedy Soy una Buena Madre Judia (I am a Good Jewish Mother), which ran for several years in Mexico City.

Shirley Valentine plays at the Foro Stanistablas, located at Dinamarca 47, Plaza Washington, Mexico City; Thurs. and Fri. at 8:30 PM, Sat. at 7 PM and Sun. at 6 PM. For tickets ($80.00 Mexican Pesos) call Ticketmaster Mexico at (52-5) 325 9000.
