Manhattan Theatre Club artistic director Lynne Meadow directs the premiere that will run through Oct. 28. It is based on the memoir by Marie Brenner. Manhattan Theatre Club commissioned the play.

Richardson ("Home Improvement," Gypsy, Loose Ends) and Carlin (The Best Man, Mary Stuart) are cast as siblings Marie and Carl.

Here's how it's billed: "Marie and her brother Carl are vastly different and have been somewhat estranged for most of their adult lives. Carl, an apple farmer in Washington state, and Marie, a New Yorker and world class journalist, have never shared the same views on politics, religion or acceptable social behavior. However, when Carl unexpectedly comes to her for help, Marie puts her life on hold to support her brother. Apples and Oranges is a funny and moving story on the extremes of family love."

The play has set design by Michael Yeargan, costume design by Wade Laboissonniere, lighting design by Pete Shinn and sound design by Kendall Simpson.

Uhry earned a Pulitzer Prize and Academy Award for Driving Miss Daisy. He earned Tony Awards for The Last Night of Ballyhoo (Best Play 1997), and his book for the musical Parade (1999).
