Kelly Coffield, a regular on "In Living Color," and Amy ("All American Girl") Hill headline the all-female production of Shakespeare's romantic comedy Much Ado About Nothing, which recently opened at the John Anson Ford Ampitheatre Complex for a run through April 25.
Directed by Natsuko Ohama and Lisa Wolpe for the L.A. Women's Shakespeare Company, the production features original music by O-Lan Jones and set design by Elina Katsioula.
When Shakespeare was in love, women weren't allowed on the stage. Now, Wolpe, WSC's artist director, has turned the tables on the Bard's "men only" casting policy.
Wolpe, who also plays Benedick in the production, has cast Coffield as Beatrice and Hill as Dogberry.
WSC's previous all-female productions include A Midsummer Night's Dream, Measure for Measure, Richard III, Hamlet, Othello and Romeo and Juliet. The Ford Theatre is located at 2580 Cahuenga Blvd. E. in Hollywood. Call (310) 289-1487 for information. -- By Willard Manus
