Cyrano was originally scheduled to begin previews Oct. 3 and officially open Oct. 8. Though the Alley did not sustain major damages due to the storm, downtown Houston is still recovering from the effects of the hurricane.
In order to allow the cast and Alley artistic staff ample time to rehearse, Cyrano will now begin performances Oct. 8 and continue through Nov. 2, as previously scheduled. There will be no official opening.
Alley artistic director Gregory Boyd stages Brian Hooker's adaptation of Edmond Rostand's romantic classic that features Alley veteran Jeffrey Bean in the title role opposite Elizabeth Heflin as Roxane with John Tyson, James Black, Todd Waite, Justin Doran and Tony nominee Josie de Guzman.
Additional casting and creative duties will be announced shortly.
Press notes for the Alley production read: "The soulful poet/philosopher and dazzling swordsman Cyrano falls for the lovely Roxane, but ashamed of his large nose, Cyrano is unable to woo her. Instead, when he learns that Roxane loves the handsome but inarticulate Christian, Cyrano writes love letters to Roxane on Christian's behalf. She falls deeply in love with the author of the letters, unaware that Cyrano penned them." Tickets are available by visiting www.alleytheatre.org or by calling (713) 220-5700.
The Alley Theatre is located at 615 Texas Avenue in Houston, TX.
