News Alliance Theatre's Into the Woods to Star Courtney Balan and Mark Price Courtney Balan, Mark Price and Angela Robinson will go Into the Woods for the Alliance Theatre beginning Aug. 31 in Atlanta. An orchestra of young musicians will play the complex Stephen Sondheim score.

The unique production will feature young musicians from local high schools, as well as members of the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra. Artistic director Susan V. Booth will stage the musical that will run through Oct. 2. It will officially open Sept. 10.

Balan (Marvelous Wonderettes, Extraordinary Ordinary) will play the Baker's Wife, opposite Price (Mamma Mia!, Mary Poppins) as the Baker and Robinson (Rent, The Color Purple) as the Witch. The cast also includes Jeremy Wood as Jack, Diany Rodriguez (Alliance's August: Osage County) as Little Red, Walter Hudson (Mrs. Warren's Profession) as the Narrator/Mysterious Man, Jill Ginsberg (Twilight in Manchego) as Cinderella, Hayden Tee (Camelot) as Cinderella’s Prince/Wolf and Corey James Wright (The Fully Monty) as Rapunzel's Prince.

Completing the cast are Courtenay Collins as Jack's Mother, Chandra Currelley as Cinderella's Step Mother, Jamie Wood Katz as Rapunzel, Barbara Marineau as Cinderella’s Mother/Granny/Giant, Jeff McKerley as the Steward, Brandon O’Dell as Cinderella's Father, as well as Jeanette Illidge and Amber Iman.

Into the Woods features a Tony-winning score by Stephen Sondheim and Tony-winning book by James Lapine. The musical premiered on Broadway in 1987 at the Martin Beck Theatre starring Bernadette Peters, Chip Zien, Joanna Gleason, Kim Crosby and Robert Westenberg. A 2002 Broadway revival played the Broadhurst Theatre.
