News Amanda Plummer Headlines Hartford Stage's Upcoming Summer and Smoke Amanda Plummer will star in Hartford Stage's upcoming season opener, Tennessee Williams' Summer and Smoke.

Staged by artistic director Michael Wilson, the co-production with New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse (where it will play in January 2007) runs at the Connecticut stage Aug. 31-Oct. 1. The show officially opens Sept. 8.

Joining  Plummer in the ensemble will be Terry Beaver, Jennifer Harmon, Nafe Katter, Stephanie Beatriz, Mateo Gomez, Marta Reiman, Johanna Morrison, Bill Kux, Curtis Billings, Elizabeth Capinera and John Ort.

The design team will feature Tony Straiges (set), David Woolard (costumes), Rui Rita (lighting) and John Gromada (sound). Max Williams serves as assistant director and Elizabeth Maloney as production stage manager.

Plummer is known for her off-kilter film portrayals in "Pulp Fiction," "So I Married an Axe Murderer" and "The Fisher King." The actress has been nominated for a Tony in the Broadway productions of A Taste of Honey, Pygmalion and Agnes of God — winning for the latter.

The rest of the 2006-2007 lineup (subject to change) is as follows:

  • Jean Paul Sartre's No Exit (Oct. 12-Nov. 12)
    Collaboration with the Massachusetts' American Repertory Theatre directed by Jerry Mouawad. Stuart Gilbert's translation.
  • A Christmas Carol – A Ghost Story of Christmas (Nov. 24-Dec. 30)
    The special holiday tradition, adapted and directed by Wilson.
  • August Wilson's Fences (Jan. 11-Feb. 11, 2007)
    Jonathan Wilson directs.
  • Luis Alfaro's Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner (March 1-April 1, 2007)
    Directed by Lisa Peterson.
  • Doug Wright's I Am My Own Wife (April 12-May 13, 2007).
    Hartford Stage associate artistic director Jeremy B. Cohen stages.
  • Terms of Endearment (May 24-June 24, 2007)
