News American Idiot Has a Date With L.A. in Spring 2012 The national tour of American Idiot will play the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles March 14-April 22, 2012, Center Theatre Group announced on March 2.

Dates and cities for the 2011-12 touring company will be trickling out from presenters in markets around the country in the coming weeks, as subscription seasons are firmed up.

As previously reported, open auditions for the national tour of American Idiot will be held March 5 at the Debbie Reynolds Studio in North Hollywood, and continue at later dates in Toronto, Boston and Chicago. For more information on the auditions, visit www.facebook.com/americanidiotbroadway.

American Idiot joins the previously announced West Coast premiere of Bring It On: The Musical in CTG's 2011-2012 season at the Ahmanson. The rest of the season will be announced shortly.

American Idiot's cast album recently won the Grammy Award for Best Show Album. The musical was nominated for a 2010 Tony Award as Best Musical. Directed by Michael Mayer, who co-wrote the libretto with Green Day front man and lyricist Billie Joe Armstrong, American Idiot (with music by Green Day) takes all of the songs from the famous punk album (and more from Green Day's catalog) and fashions a story of three lifelong friends who choose between their dreams and the safety of suburbia. "Their quest for meaning in a post 9-11 world leads them on an exhilarating journey," according to producers.

American Idiot continues at Broadway's St. James Theatre.
