Malakar, who appeared in Season 6 of the reality-competition series, makes his New York stage debut when he joins the cast of Freckleface Strawberry The Musical beginning Feb. 23 at New World Stages.

Malakar joins a cast that currently features Remy Zaken (Spring Awakening) as Stawberry, with Julia Bray, Andrew Cristi, Linda Gabler, Kimiko Glenn and Mykal Kilgore.

Currently working on an album of original music, to be titled "Life-Love-Music," Malakar has also written the book "Dancing to the Music in My Head," released an EP and toured the world since his days as the memorably hairstyled "Idol" contestant.

Freckleface Strawberry The Musical is based on the best-selling children’s book by Oscar-nominated actress Julianne Moore. The show features music and lyrics by Gary Kupper with book by Kupper and Rose Caiola. Direction is by Buddy Crutchfield with choreography by Gail Pennington Crutchfield.
