David Cook, the winner of the seventh season of American Idol, makes his Broadway debut in the Tony-winning musical Kinky Boots beginning April 3 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.
Cook steps into the role of Charlie Price for a limited engagement through May 5. The singer, who released his new EP Chromance February 16, succeeds Jake Shears.
Cook joins Wayne Brady, who returned to the role of Lola March 5.
“I am so thrilled and honored that I am going to be part of this show and get to work with so many amazing people!” Cook said in an earlier statement. “I love the collaborative aspect of theatre, the idea of being part of a creative team and working it out in front of an audience each night.”
