News American Theatre Wing Makes "Careers in the Theatre" Interview Series — From Albee to Wilcox — Accessible On Line American Theatre Wing's complete "Guide to Careers in the Theatre" — a collection of videotaped interviews with leading practitioners discussing theatrical job descriptions — is now available on line for the first time, the Wing announced Aug. 30.

The series was created in partnership with the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts. Visit http://www.americantheatrewing.org/video-GCT.php for more information.

"This program consists of 30 interviews with Broadway's leading artists explaining what each discipline in the theatre is and what it takes to enter and make a career in the theatre," according to the Wing. "They were produced in 2001 and 2002 under the ATW leadership of Isabelle Stevenson and Roy A. Somlyo and Betty Corwin from the Library."

The programs are moderated by Pia Lindström or Ted Chapin. This is one of ATW's educational efforts to show young people how to begin their careers in the theatre.

Some of the programs (13 of them) have been available previously on the ATW site. This is the first time that all 30 of the shows are available online.

The distinguished list of theatre professionals interviewed include Edward Albee ("The Playwright"), Emanuel Azenberg ("The Producer"), Spofford Beadle ("The House Manager & The Theatre Staff"); Adrian Bryan-Brown ("The Press Representative"); Heidi L. Brown, James Fedigan, Patrick Sullivan ("The Stagehands"); Jim Carnahan ("The Casting Director"); Cy Coleman ("The Composer"); Nancy Coyne ("The Advertising Agency"); Jules Fisher ("The Lighting Designer"); Paul Gemignani ("The Musical Director"); Alyce Gilbert ("The Wardrobe Department"); Jane Greenwood ("The Costume Designer"); Alan Hall ("The Stage Manager"); Sheldon Harnick ("The Lyricist"); Luther Henderson ("The Orchestrator"); Bob Kelly ("The Hair & Make-up Department"); Lionel Larner ("The Talent Agent"); Donna McKechnie ("The Dancer"); Otts Munderloh ("The Sound Designer"); Lisa Poyer ("The Company Manager"); Harold Prince ("The Director"); Lloyd Richards ("The Director"); Marian Seldes ("The Actor"); Arthur Siccardi ("The Technical Supervisor"); Margery Singer ("The Marketing Director"); Philip J. Smith ("The Theatre Operator"); Peter Stone ("The Musical Book Writer"); Susan Stroman ("The Choreographer"); Robin Wagner ("The Scenic Designer") and Charlotte W. Wilcox ("The General Manager"). ATW has been upgrading the website due to the increased demand for its streaming audio and video services. It now has an expanded capacity for simultaneous users for the free audio and video archive of more than 225 hours of theatrical seminars and discussions, including "Guides to Careers in the Theatre" at www.americantheatrewing.org.

The American Theatre Wing (Sondra Gilman, Chairman of the Board; Doug Leeds, President and Howard Sherman, Executive Director) is "dedicated to supporting excellence and education in theatre" and "operates an array of programs to support those goals."
