News Amy Justman, Donna Vivino, Jason Patrick Sands and More Will Perform at BMI's Smoker Showcase The BMI-Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop will present its spring Smoker, a semi-annual showcase of new songs from workshop writers, April 26 in BMI's New York office.

The event, scheduled to begin at 5:30 PM in the 30th floor media room, is free and open to members of the entertainment industry as well as workshop members.

The Smoker, now in its 15th season, is modeled after informal social gatherings at Cambridge University, where the workshop's two-time Tony Award-winning and Oscar-nominated writer Maury Yeston performed his songs during his undergraduate days.

Amy Justman (Company), Christina Bianco, Donna Vivino (Wicked), Lee Aaron Rosen (The Normal Heart), Dustin Sullivan, Cassie Slater, Jason Patrick Sands (A Chorus Line), JD Daw and Brittney Lee Hamilton are among the performers who will sing songs by Gary Apple, Timothy Huang, Katya Stanislavskaya, Eric March, Raymond Bokhour & Simon Gray, David Gaines & Michele Foor, Greg Edwards & Ben Green, Adam Mathias & Jonathan Monro, George Merrick & Andy Roninson, Kate Anderson & Elyssa Samsel, Tom Stuart & Jeff Hardy, Anna Dagmar & Caleb Damschroder, Kate Anderson & Elyssa Samsel and Kathryn Hathaway & Benjamin Velez.

The event is co-produced by Frank Evans and Frederick Freyer.

Previous Smoker participants include Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx (Avenue Q), Nancy Ford and Gretchen Cryer (I'm Getting My Act Together…), Eric Rockwell and Joann Bogart (The Musical of Musicals, The Musical) Amanda Green and Tom Kitt (High Fidelity, Hands on Hardbody) and Kitt and Brian Yorkey (Next to Normal). The BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop, recipient of a 2006 Tony honor, Drama Desk Award and Drama League Award for Excellence in Musical Theatre, was founded in 1961 by the late Lehman Engel, dean of American musical theatre, to create a setting where new writers could learn their craft.
