News An Evening at the Carlyle Revue Extends to Open-Ended Engagement An Evening at the Carlyle, Albert M. Tapper's new musical revue set in — but not performed at — the famous New York City hotel, is now an open-ended run, producers announced June 29.

The engagement was previously announced to play June 8-30. Tom Herman directs.

An Evening at the Carlyle "transports you 40 blocks north to the swankiest 'mecca northeast of Tribeca,' the Upper East Side's Bemelmans Bar in the Hotel Carlyle," according to the producers. "The revolving door of patrons range from aspiring artists to down-and-out execs; from optimistic lovers to the torch-carrying lovelorn; from surprise celebrity guests to the inevitable celebrity wannabes; and from barflies toasting to their memories to those who drink to forget. For less than the cost of a round of cocktails, you join them all for an effervescent night out at one of Manhattan's most infamous watering holes."

The show is in the tradition of Off-Broadway revues like The Shoestring Revue, Starting Here Starting Now and Upstairs at O'Neil's, according to producer Algonquin Theater Productions.

Musical staging is by Rachelle Rak (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Fosse), who also appears in the cast.

Book, music and lyrics are by Tapper. The cast includes Amanda Gabbard, Dennis Holland, Kelli Maguire, Michael F. McGuirk, Rachelle Rak and Jason Rowland. Musical direction is by David Wolfson. Tapper wrote the book, music and lyrics for the current Off-Broadway musical Sessions and wrote the music and co-wrote the lyrics and book for David, a musical based on the biblical story. ImPerfect Chemistry, for which he wrote the book and composed the music, played the Minetta Lane Theatre. Tapper also produced the acclaimed documentary film "Broadway: The Golden Age."

The creative team includes John McDermott (set design), Brant Thomas Murray (lighting design), Cathy Small (costume design) and Josh Liebert (sound design).

An Evening at the Carlyle, A New Musical Revue plays Sunday-Tuesday at 7 PM at The Algonquin Theater (123 East 24th Street). Tickets are $35 and available through SmartTix.com at (212) 868-4444. ($20 tickets are available to senior and students at The Algonquin Theater box office.)
