News An Evening With Jeanine Tesori Will Include Chat and Songs, to Benefit Transport Group, Feb. 28 Jack Cummings, creative artistic director of Transport Group, the Off-Off-Broadway not-for-profit theatre company, will interview composer Jeanine Tesori 8 PM Feb. 28 at the Barrow Street Theatre, in an evening of song and stories about her work.

The 90-minute, in-depth, question-and-answer session will include a wine and cheese reception and will feature original cast members of Tesori's musicals performing the songs she wrote for them.

Tesori is a three-time Tony Award nominee for Twelfth Night (Lincoln Center Theater), Thoroughly Modern Millie and Caroline, or Change.

Transport Group's recent productions include First Lady Suite, Requiem for William and Our Town.

Performers scheduled to appear include at the benefit event are Tonya Pinkins (the Tony Award-nominated title character in Caroline, or Change), Anika Noni Rose (who won a Tony Award playing Caroline's daughter), Chuck Cooper (who was the cigar-chompin' Dryer in Caroline), Amanda Posner (the original Young Violet of Violet), Matt Cavenaugh (who toured with Millie), Jessica Grove (who played Miss Dorothy in Broadway's Millie), Paul Oakley Stovall (who will sing "Let It Sing from Violet).

Mary-Mitchell Campbell will serve as the musical director for the evening. Tickets for An Evening With Jeanine Tesori are $35. The Barrow Street Theatre is at 27 Barrow St., at the corner of Seventh Avenue.

In addition to her Broadway work, Tesori won wide acclaim for Violet, produced at Playwrights Horizons. It was named Best Musical by the New York Drama Critics Circle and the Lucille Lortel Awards, and Tesori received an Obie Award for her music. For film, Tesori has written songs for "Mulan II" and "Lilo and Stitch II," from Disney.

An Evening with Jeanine Tesori is the second installment in Transport Group's benefit series in which the company "offers an evening of conversation with a cutting edge theatre artist."

Last year's evening with Michael John LaChiusa was sold out and featured several Broadway performers including Carolee Carmello, Michele Pawk, Mary Testa, John Dossett, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Barbara Walsh, Maureen Moore, Alice Playten and Marc Kudisch.
